Vicky Petete

CPA, CGMA

When Meredith Murphy, a manager for Vision Bank Ada, graduated from East Central University, she wanted to immediately sit for the CPA

exam. Her mentor, Vicky Petete, CPA, CGMA, an executive vice president and CFO for Vision Bank, fully backed Murphy’s decision. In fact, the way Murphy tells it, she might not be a CPA today if it weren’t for Petete’s encouragement.

“I was not successful, and, after a couple of attempts, I gave up,” Murphy said. “In 2014, I was a senior vice president and controller under Vicky. I had options and a clear career path outlined. However, Vicky wasn’t ready to let me give up on the goal of being a CPA.” Murphy continued, “She gave me one final

pep talk, reminding me that we are all different and that our career paths to the top are all different. In January 2015, I accepted my CPA certificate with Vicky standing proudly in the audience … Tat’s just what Vicky does. She encourages, pushes and delights in others’ successes.” Petete, a member for 38 years, has a long

history of helping and encouraging others. Kyle Stuart, CPA, a senior vice president for People’s Electric Cooperative in Ada, said, “Nearly 20 years ago, Vicky became my mentor when I was a young college kid majoring in accounting. Vicky saw potential in me and took me under her wing and helped guide me to make the best choices for my accounting career path … She has poured her knowledge and genuine concern into my life for years and has become a close personal friend, as well as a truly respected colleague.” Stuart added, “If Vicky had only done this in my life, that would be one thing, but I have

“I’m proud of the awards I’ve been given for my willingness to give back,” Petete explained. “God has blessed me throughout my life with individuals who have been wonderful mentors. Wanting to somehow repay those individuals, I have strived to look for opportunities to cross paths and touch the lives of other individuals.” But Petete said she’s the one who has been blessed. “Blessed by watching the success of individuals whose lives I hope I have somehow touched,” Petete said. “In the words of a great man who I truly respected, Mr. Harland C. Stonecipher, ‘Success is not measured by the number of dollars you make, but the number of lives you touch.’”
