In addition to interviews, students have the opportunity to run their own simulated business. Te students are put into the role of an entrepreneur, founder and CEO, and are combatted with realistic situations. Te interaction of networking

opportunities is a big highlight. Each afternoon over lunch, students have an opportunity to network with local business leaders who are invited to campus. Te students are able to interact and ask questions about the various professions represented to gain a better understanding of what professionals really do in their careers.

Although multiple business disciplines

are highlighted during the camp, my personal passion is to create an opportunity to reach students at an earlier age to consider the accounting profession. I feel as though I lucked out when I found my first accounting course junior year after switching my major from science. I never had a high-school accounting course, nor

did I have any experience to the profession through mentors. Although I fell into accounting more by process of elimination and a general love for numbers, this camp can help make the path for future accounting students more visible. Te Bureau of Labor Statistics (2018)

projects employment for accountants and auditors to grow an average of 10% between 2016 and 2026, which is 3% higher than the growth rate for all occupations. Te Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) Business and Industry Economic Outlook Survey in the first quarter of 2019 found the availability of skilled accounting personnel remained the top challenge for organizations. Programs like those at NWOSU give students exposure to the CPA profession, which is vital to the future of our organization. My hope for the future of these programs is to continue reaching skilled students with the

capabilities to become CPAs who may not have considered the accounting profession otherwise.
