In Good Company: Mike North, CPA It all comes out in the wash
A
ccording to the U.S. Census Bureau data, consumers spend about $5.8 billion at car washes each year.
Mike North, CPA, is hoping some of those consumers spend
time at Okie Express Auto Wash, where he is president and CEO. Okie Express has locations in Moore, Mustang, Warr Acres, Edmond, Del City, Norman, Choctaw and Yukon and just opened a ninth location in south Oklahoma City. North, a member for 35 years, started Okie Express with a
partner in June 2005 and says he has no regrets. “I have been an entrepreneur for many years and love the lifestyle it has given me,” North said. “My time is my own on most days. I love working on a project and seeing my efforts come to fruition as the project comes together. I enjoy talking to people and learning new ideas daily.” One of those projects include Grace for Vets, which gives
free car washes to veterans, active military personnel and their immediate families on Veterans Day. Another is WaterSavers, an organization of car wash owners dedicated to providing environmentally friendly car washes and technology. Tis summer, the OSCPA caught up with North and asked him some questions.
CPAFOCUS: What is your favorite thing that you own? North: My Indian Roadmaster motorcycle
CPAFOCUS: If you could only pick three bands to listen to for a month, who would make the cut? North: Steely Dan, Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Record Company
CPAFOCUS: What is your dream trip? Who would you take with you? North: We travel quite a bit, so my dream trip would be to New Zealand and Australia via Fiji and Tahiti with my wife.
CPAFOCUS: Which three words describe you best? North: Tenacious, intuitive and hardheaded
CPAFOCUS: What are your favorite hobbies? North: I love deer hunting and riding motorcycles.
CPAFOCUS: What is your favorite kind of pizza? North: Hawaiian with extra meat and onions
CPAFOCUS: What was your favorite gift that you’ve ever received? North: Children and grandchildren—while I like my toys, I am not someone who needs new things all the time.
