OKLAHOMA DENTAL FOUNDATION

Become an Adopted Dentist

Te Schools for Healthy Lifestyles (SHL) program was developed in 1997 to promote and maintain healthy lifestyles among children, families and school faculty.

In 2008, the ODA worked with the executive director of SHL to develop an oral health component, which includes the Adopt-A-Dentist program. Te ODA coordinated and facilitated the program until passing the torch to the Oklahoma Dental Foundation in 2014.

Currently, 62 schools within 26 school districts across the state participate in the SHL program, and many are in need of an adopted dentist. Dentists who volunteer for the program agree to visit their adopted school(s) at least twice per year to provide oral health education. Dentists may utilize their own curriculum or that provided by SHL. Dentists also have the option to book the MobileSmiles dental unit to provide care at their adopted school

If you are interested in becoming an adopted dentist or would like more information about the program, please contact Lindsi Lemons, Program Director with SHL, at 405.606.8435.
