MARKET UPDATE Ten Years in Two Years

The title of this piece has nothing to do with the yield curve, although I have plenty of thoughts on that. Instead, I will populate these next few paragraphs with a quick update on what we have been up to at FBBS. Generally speaking, it feels like we have advanced ten years in just the last two years. As shareholders of MIB, I have always felt that you can draw a short line between that equity stake and an interest in our company. Over the last two years we have invested in the company so that we can be a better partner for our colleagues in community banking. I believe our speaker lineup for our

investment seminar this past May 2nd is a reflection of where we are headed as a company. In years past we usually have had the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals as a presenter, but this year we had the President of Baseball Operations, John Mozeliak speak instead. His dry wit helped to mask the shrewd executive behind the quips, but running an organization of that scope clearly takes a serious skill set. His insights gave a glimpse as to the amount of strategic planning required to run a business efficiently. Kevin Van Trump of The Van Trump Report provided an incredibly unique view of both the investment world and the direction of the world at large. For the final presenter, I had the

privilege of introducing the newest member of the FBBS team, Ed Krei. If you recognize Ed’s name it might be because he has been lecturing, teaching and providing strategic advisory services to banks for decades. A frequent speaker at banking and investment conferences, Ed has spoken for the FFIEC, FDIC, Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the OCC, the Conference of State Bank Supervisors and Federal Home Loan Banks. He has served as faculty member of several graduate

banking schools, as well as an instructor for financial institution regulatory agencies. Ed’s expertise and ability to convey that knowledge will be invaluable as we move forward with our new strategies group and the innovative software at their disposal. At the turn of the year, we converted

bond accounting systems from InTrader to TPG, which allows us much greater flexibility with processing, reporting, accounting methods and data management. As with any conversion, there were a couple hundred questions we forgot to ask after the thousand we had answered. I would like to thank all of our customers for their patience as we worked through the issues. We believe TPG to be a superior bond accounting system that will better serve our users. In conjunction with the TPG upgrade,

we also added software from ZM Financial for swaps, analytics and our new Asset Liability Management platform. ZM Financial provides over 2,000 clients with solutions in securities and fixed-income analytics, credit-adjusted ALM, liquidity, risk management, budgeting and funds transfer pricing, to better manage your risk and profitability. Their software will also enable FBBS to offer solutions to meet the ever-evolving regulatory risk reporting requirements. These two systems have the ability to share a “data warehouse” which gives us the opportunity to pay for data once and take advantage of that data across the platforms, passing along the value to clients in our pricing structure. Amid all of this change, one thing

that will never change is our commitment to participation and sponsorship of the groups that support community banks. Our entire staff shares the sense of dedication to the shareholders of MIB. We are investing in our company to help yours succeed.
