Fall events included the Northeast Dental Society’s Installation, the MDA Day at the Game as Mizzou hosted Florida for Homecoming, and a Lunch and Learn event at ATSU, fea- turing a visit and presentation from ADA President Dr. Maxine Feinberg.

This brings us full circle to another ADA House of Delegates in Wash- ington D.C., followed by the MDA House, my eagerly (?) awaited Outgo- ing President’s Address and our gala 150th Anniversary Celebration.

As the year ends, three valued mem- bers of the MDA Board are departing. I would like to extend my thanks to Drs. John Freeze, Rolfe McCoy and Ron Wilkerson for their contributions to our discussions and decisions. They will be missed by all of us on the Board, especially Dr. Wilkerson for his expertise on paving issues.

The MDA staff continues to set the standard for professionalism. From Executive Director Vicki Wilbers on down, they do everything they can to keep the MDA President on task. Most importantly, they strike the difficult balance of providing capable direction and support, without turn- ing the MDA into an operation that is dominated by staff. My thanks go out to all of our amazing team.

My thanks also go out to my wife Donna, for her patience, support and understanding throughout my presi- dential year.

The MDA remains strong and adapt- able to change, and I have every confidence in our continued success. I thank everyone for allowing me the opportunity to serve this past year. f

2015 MDA Resolutions in Review The following is a summary of resolutions ADOPTED at the 2015 MDA House of Delegates, November 13-14, in Jefferson City.

2015H-1 through 2015H-5. These adopted resolutions dealt with Approval of the 2015 House of Delegates Agenda; Approval of the 2015 Manual of the House of Delegates; Approval of the November 2014 House of Delegates Minutes; Nominations for 2016 ADA Delegates and Alternate Delegates; and, Nominations for 2016 ADA Action Team Leaders.

2015H-6 (Approval of 2016 Dues). This adopted resolution set 2016 MDA dues at $452 for Active Members (no dues increase). See complete dues information at modental.org/dues. Of note this year, members may pay their dues online with no credit card fee assessed.

2015H-7 (MDA Workforce Position). Resolution 2014H-13 directed the MDA Board of Trustees to review all past MDA House of Delegates resolutions specifically related to auxiliary workforce and combine them into one comprehensive resolution to the 2015 House of Delegates. This adopted resolution was a result of that research and combination.

2015H-8 (Composition of Articles of Agreement & Bylaws Committee). This adopted resolution clarified that sitting Board members may not serve on the Articles of Agreement & Bylaws Committee. This change was not necessary for the General Refer- ence Committee, as the Bylaws already stipulate members must be Delegates or Alternates to the MDA House of Delegates to serve on that committee, thus disqualifying any sitting Board members.

2015H-9 (Full-Time Faculty Reduced Dues Schedule). MDA House of Delegates resolution 2003H-13 created a reduced dues schedule for full-time faculty members of 50% of active member dues. In reviewing the MDA Articles of Agreement and Bylaws it was found that a statement allowing the House to establish this reduced dues fee schedule was missing from the Bylaws. This adopted resolution corrected this, by adding full-time faculty as a category for which reduced dues schedules are allowed.

2015-10 (MDA House of Delegates Code of Conduct). Resolu- tion 2013H-12 MDA Governance Gap Solutions provided several recommendations from the MDA Governance Taskforce. One was

that “Both the House of Delegates and the Board of Trustees should develop a Code of Conduct as well as a mechanism for ensuring adherence to those respective codes.” The Board of Trustees recom- mended to the 2015 House a Code of Conduct for the MDA House of Delegates, which included a policy on adherence. This resolution was referred back to the Board for additional study.

2015H-11 (Legislative and Regulatory Committee). This adopted resolution amended the Bylaws to achieve three results: 1) To state who would nominate the Legislative and Regulatory Committee (LRC) Chair (changing it from the president-elect to the Board Development Committee); 2) To set a term for the Chair, thus providing more consistency for this important position; and, 3) To clarify who may serve on the LRC Committee, as there was no policy to prevent sitting MDA Board of Trustees members from serving on the LRC Committee, nor was there a maximum number of committee members that could serve dual roles on both the Board and committee. It was felt because the LRC is to serve as an advisory committee to the Board, the committee should not include sitting Board members.

2015H-12 (Student Loan Forgiveness Program). This resolu- tion asked that the MDA, in conjunction with MDIS, help new dentist members graduating from school by providing guidance and expertise via contracted help to assist them with effectively applying for a loan forgiveness program. This resolution was referred to the Board of Trustees to fully investigate the issues related to student debt, form an action plan to address the issues and report to the 2016 House of Delegates.

2015H-13 (Specialty Teaching License). The adopted resolu- tion asked that the MDA, through its Legislative and Regulatory Committee, work with the Missouri Dental Board to investigate legislation that will allow a limited specialty teaching license for faculty who possess a dental degree from a foreign country and who also possess a U.S. specialty certificate from a CODA approved program and Board certification.

The Right Resources

Members frequently call on the MDA because they need advice or help in finding a resource for a specific situation. We’re here to help you, and if we can’t answer your question, we’ll do the research to provide the information you need.

Another great resource is the MDA FAQ section on modental.org. In addition to this FAQ listing, we’ve created a online index and links to Dental Practice Act (rules and statutes).
