MDIS celebrates 20 years Two decades ago members went ‘above and beyond’
to create MDIS, continue to be dedicated to its success

n 1863 in his Gettysburg Address, Pres- ident Abraham Lincoln said “Four- score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, con- ceived in liberty and dedi- cated to the proposition that all men are created equal”— certainly, important words with a spe- cial meaning for all Americans. To continue on a theme of history, it was exactly one score ago—that’s 20 years—at the MDA House of Delegates that a group of MDA member dentists conceived a new orga- nization dedicated to the concept of helping dentists’ with their professional and personal insurance needs. The organization was Mis- souri Dental Insurance Services, and, as they say, the rest is history.
I It would be hard to compare it to the risk
taken by Abraham Lincoln’s address, but these MDA members took a risk to establish MDIS— which would turn out to be a great venture. We’re proud to say that on this our 20th anniversary, MDIS continues to help dentists and their practice, staff and families with all manners of insurance and financial products
and services. We’re also proud that through MDIS’ existence these past 20 years, we’ve been able to provide more than $1.8 million to strengthen and benefit the Missouri Den- tal Association, of which we’re a wholly- owned subsidiary. At the 2011 MDA House awards banquet held the first of Novem- ber, MDIS was pleased to recog- nize those individuals who had the foresight and lead- ership to create MDIS and who were instru- mental in organizing
and nurturing it to become the important member benefit that it is today. These included: Dr. John Hume, Dr. James Elliot, Dr. Chad McCoy, Dr. Mark Zust, Dr. Edward McAllister, Dr. Gary Baker, Dr. Joseph Boain, Dr. Grant Merritt, Dr. Harold Carter, and, Dr. Roger Suchman.
MDIS also was honored to present a new award for going “Above and Beyond” to Dr. Mark Zust as a token of appreciation and deep admiration. Through the past 20 years, Dr. Zust has served in every capacity and his loy- alty, dedication and perseverance has guided MDIS continuously, every step of the way. We thank all members for your continued patron- age of MDIS. We look forward to another great 20 years of servings the business needs of the dental profession.
