• Rationalize programs and services • Build a robust technology framework

I’ll be honest and admit that MDA may have some work to do to follow all these sugges- tions to a T, but I believe and know that the MDA has clearly shown we’ve been in the race for years. We are a progressive associa- tion in many ways, and I believe well ahead of our colleagues in various areas.

For example, in 2002, we looked into the future to determine our relevance and to continue to offer what is needed for mem- bers. It happened through this Association making significant changes to our gover- nance structure … our House, our Commit- tees and our Board.

Those changes helped to empower the CEO (Executive Director) and enhance staff expertise. This needs to continue. The Board is committed to taking on the challenge of continuing to look at its structures and make changes or improvements in the up- coming year.

It happened through our recent strategic planning efforts whereby we took a serious look at how to not only define our member- ship market but provide significant commit-

ment to determine what our members want and need in order to be successful. We did this by hiring someone dedicated to Out- reach and Advocacy for our membership.

We also have worked to rationalize our programs and services and strategically align the multiple organizations created by this Association for its members: MDIS, MDA Foundation, MDA Dental Well Being Foundation and the MODentPAC.

Sure … we’d have some work to do if fol- lowing this book, but I am very proud of how we’re running the race now, and how we’re planning to be better and stronger in the future.

I stated at the end of my address last year that I hoped in 2011 I could stand in front of you and say that we were doing the right things for the Association. I can reflect upon this last year and say, without a doubt, YES WE ARE!

I thank each of you for your member- ship and for allowing me to serve as your Executive Director and to be a part of this wonderful profession.
