Greater Spring�ield Society’s 100 Year Gala a success!


The 100 year anniversary of the Greater Springfi eld Dental Society was recognized on April 9, 2010 at The Tower Club in Springfi eld. With more than 130 people in attendance, the So- ciety celebrated its history and installed the 2010-2011 GSDS Board of Directors. The evening program included socializing, dining, individual honors and remembering history.


During the Gala, life pins were presented to Jerry Fankhauser, Donald Jump, Houston Ker and Charles Vogel (Wayne Goodin, Daryl Horton and Joseph Pruitt also received this honor). Special recognition also was given to Dr. Goodin for his work with the diff erent Springfi eld dental assisting programs and Brad Burks for his work on the continuing education programs for our Society. Also recognized was Darren Mahaff ey for receiv- ing the 2009 MDA Outstanding Young Dentist Award and Kevin Wallace for receiving the 2009 MDA Distinguished Service Award. A special thanks was given to Jim Stewart for his service as president for 2009-2010. Finally, Bob Edmonds of Edmonds Dental Prosthetics was recognized for the contributions he makes for the Society and dental profession.


Emcee Kirk Elmquist provided a lively program interviewing Bob Adams, Dio Daley, Jerry Cash and Bill Brell inquiring about their memories of past events within the Society. Tom Stone, with the help of his son, William, presented a video presentation of inter- views with present and retired members of the Greater Springfi eld Dental Society and what membership has meant to them.


Enjoying the Greater Springfi eld Gala were, from left, Dr. Marsha Pyle (UMKC School of Dentistry Dean) and Springfi eld detnists and spouses, Dr. Jerry Cash, Leslie Fankhauser, Dr. Jerry Fankhauser, Carolyn Jump and Dr. Donald Jump.


With registration for the Gala, all dentists were off ered the oppor- tunity to contribute in honor or in memory of those who inspired them in their careers. The Greater Springfi eld Dental Foundation is happy to report a total of $5,000 in donations, and says “Thank You!” to those individuals that honored others.


Thanks to Kevin Austin, Houston Ker, Dan Kessler, Brad Newberry, Don Raphael, Stuart Scott, Jim Stewart, Tom Stone, and Jean Harmison, GSDS executive director, for their eff orts to plan this spe- cial event. Thanks also to everyone who attended, as we continue the strong tradition of the Greater Springfi eld Dental Society into the next 100 years!


Greater St. Louis Greater St. Louis Science Fair features dental projects


The Greater St. Louis Dental Society annually participates in judging dental related projects at the Greater St. Louis Science Fair (an initia- tive of the Academy of Science of St. Louis) and awards certifi cates and cash prizes to six winners.


This year, MDA members Vincent Rapini, Ted Rechtin, Lori Roseman, Robert Shapiro, Kurt Studt and Greg Studt judged elementary and secondary entries at Queeny Park on May 5, 2010. We are proud of all the winners and are happy to support and encourage their inter- est in dentistry.
