Here We Go! I

t’s a great honor to be your 151st MDA President. I’m really enjoy- ing myself so far. The staffs, both at the MDA and my office, have been extremely supportive. It’s been an action-packed first couple of months with more to come!

We started by welcoming Dr. Emily Mattingly as our New Dentist Board member. Dr. Mack Taylor moved from the New Dentist posi- tion to Southeast Trustee. Dr. Rob Tait was installed as President- Elect leaving Dr. Jeremy Bowen to assume the seat for Greater Kansas City. This left a vacancy as LRC Chair, which Dr. Ron Wilkerson ac- cepted the appointment. This, in turn, left us without a Treasurer, an officer position Dr. Jon Copeland agreed to assume. As your president, it’s my duty to fill vacancies when they occur in this manner, and I am thankful for these members to accept my invitation to fill these appointments.

With all of this shuffling, committee appointments also had to be made. Dr. Brett Durbin assumed a seat on the Education Committee. Dr. Erick Janssen and Dr. Mack Taylor joined the Missouri Dental Board Nominating Committee of which Dr. Rob Tait became the new chair—a seat that I vacated. Whew—makes me tired just recapping it!

By the time you read this, we already will have had Legislative Day at the Capitol, and I hope you were there. This is a very valuable event for our Association. It’s a chance for our members to meet with our Legislators to convey our Legislative Agenda in person. We’ve had great success in getting our issues addressed in the past, and this year will be no exception. That success is due not only to events like this but also to your MODentPAC contributions. This year is an elec- tion year, so we will need more support for candidates. They really appreciate the support, and it helps when we call on them for help. If you haven’t given yet, please consider a donation. If you have already, we will always accept more. Also, if you haven’t attended Legislative Day, please plan on it next year. It’s actually a fun day! See page 15 for MDA’s Legislative Agenda and make sure to go to modental.org/advo- cacy to stay up to date. Also, please make sure to read about Voter- Voice on page 16 and be prepared to use it when we ask for your help to contact legislators on priority issues.

My first official function was the Officer Installation for Greater Kan- sas City Dental Society. We were warmly welcomed at the Brio on the Plaza, which is an awesome restaurant if you haven’t gone. It’s a real pleasure to represent the MDA at these events. Dr. Matthew Hlavacek assumed the office of President that night. He will serve their Society very well. Thanks to all of the component officers for your commit- ment to our Association. I’m looking forward to a similar Installa- tion Banquet in St. Louis a the end of January, and to visiting other

component meetings throughout the spring. At these meetings, you may hear me talk about the MDA’s new Strategic Plan, which began development last summer, before the Connect4Success at the Lake.

Out of this meeting, 2025 was formed. Since then our MDA staff and officers have put in a lot of work to finalize the plan for our Board to approve. We all are excited to get this in place. For those who don’t know, our Strategic Plan is much like your Mission Statement for your offices. It’s what all of the decisions for the Association is filtered through. We are proud of the result, seen above, which will receive final approval at the January Board of Trust- ees meeting. This of course, is just a “30,000 Foot View”, and under each of these tactics, actionable steps and timelines are being devel- oped to carry out these overarching goals. We’ll continue to provide updates on its progress and what it means for you, the member.

Thank you for allowing me to be your President for the Missouri Dental Association for this new year of a new decade. It truly is an honor! f
