WINNING ENTRY { OUTDOORS } PATAGONIAN MOUNTAIN LAKE by Dr. Sainy Adel, Lee’s Summit
THE OUTDOOR CATEGORY HAD 20 ENTRIES. Dr. Adel, a Columbia, Mo. native, practices in Lee’s Summit at Flucke & Associates, along with Drs. John Flucke and Rachel Brunker. After graduating from MU in 2012 with his undergraduate in Biology, he moved to Kansas City to work on his Master’s in Cellular and Molecular Biology. While doing so, Dr. Adel came across an inner-city non-profit organization and became
an after-school teacher for elementary kids undergoing severe emotional and psychological trauma—an unexpected experience through which he found his passion for dentistry: kids being teased about their teeth; parents denied jobs due to the appearance of their smile; the debilitating pain of a toothache leading to parents neglecting their children. This guided Dr. Adel to a career in dentistry, and his background in research translates to his love for new procedures and innovative dental technology. When asked what he’s most looking forward to photographing this year, he said, “I plan on exploring European landscapes along with our beautiful national parks. Photography and traveling go hand in hand, each making the other more exciting. I love getting out of my comfort zone to experience unfamiliar cultures and find ways to capture those real-life experiences accurately through the lens of a camera.”
