A Great Winter Session 2010

The week of Winter Session is always packed full of activities, including a legislative reception, MDA Board meeting and Missouri Dental Board 50-Year Licensee Recognition Luncheon—all before Winter Session kicks off on Friday! We thank all participants of these events and attendees of Winter Session, including sponsors and exhibitors, who helped to make it a great experience!

The MDA honored a milestone achievement of the Missouri Donated Dental Services (DDS) program at its Legislative Reception hosted at the Missouri State Capitol Building—reaching $2 million in donated care since its inception in 1999. Member dentists attended the Legislative Reception to visit with legislators (as the table of cakes lured them to the area) and remind them about the important charitable efforts of Missouri dentists to provide care through programs like DDS.

Above, from left: Representative Terry Swinger (D-162) visits with Dr. Merle Nunemaker, MDA Legislative and Regulatory Committee (LRC) Chair. Representative Swinger is a co-sponsor on House Bill 1620, which prohibits health insurers from capping fees for services not covered by the dental plan.

Above: Dr. Bryan Foote, Chair of the Missouri DDS Committee, acknowledges the efforts of several who have helped Missouri DDS reach its $2 million milestone, including Teena Paris (far left), in-state DDS program coordinator and two staff of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Marie Peoples and Carolyn Link (far right). Thanks to the support of the Department, DDS was funded in late 2005, allowing for an in-state coordinator. The coordinator’s office is housed in the MDA office, which the Association provides as a gift-in-kind contribution to help keep the program sustainable.

From left: Dr. Dorsey Moore, Kansas City (with Dental Board President, Dr. Kevin Wallace) and Harriet Morris, RDH, Kansas City, were two of the dental professionals honored at the Missouri Dental Board 50-year licensee luncheon, held at the MDA office Thursday prior to Winter Session.

The event provides a special opportunity for these licensees to come together to share the camaraderie of the profession, and to reminisce about the dental profession over the past 50 years. We congratulate the licensees honored including, Drs. Robert McCollum, Independence; Dorsey Moore, Kansas City; Ronald Davis, Wichita, Kan.; Norman Freiberger, St. Charles; Peter Hummel, Fenton; Frank Ishii, St. Charles, Antonio Longrais, St. Louis; Ellis Memos, St. Louis; Donald Meyer, Independence; James Trout, St. Joseph; and, Harriet Morris, RDH, Kansas City.
