Not to be out-done by the older men in her family, Sugar Rey’s


daughter, EMBL Sugar Plum, owned at the time by Eric McLeymore of North Carolina, won her 0-3-month fullblood doe class. The three RM Ranch-bred bucks came into the national show with a string of championship wins to their credit under a variety of judges.


However, Sugar Rey’s youth and more refined look easily won over the diverse slate of judges — John Edwards of Texas, Anton Ward of North Carolina and Sherri Stephens of Indiana. Youth also took center stage as Midwest breeders Paul and Kim


Morgan’s December-born painted doeling went all the way to the top and claimed the National Champion Fullblood Doe crown. The Morgans, showing goats for just the second time at the Na- tionals, also exhibited the Reserve Champion Junior Percentage Doe and the Reserve Champion Best Pair of Percentage Does. That was the beginning of numerous national titles for the Morgans’ 2M Boer Goats of Charlestown, Ind. The 2011 National Show was host to many other novice exhib- itors who brought their best Boer goats from all corners of the United States. And more than a few of them took home ribbons and awards. There were a few familiar names in the championship drives, but — for the most part — the winners exemplified a growing base of qual- ity breeders willing to test their genetics on the national level. Today’s ABGA National Show is still the place to show off the best breeding stock the industry has to offer — and they come from every corner of the U.S. n
