Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado hosts several training events around the state including Crew Leader Instructor Training, Rock Skills Workshop, Ecological Restoration, Crew Leader Training for Trails, Working with Youth, Trail Maintenance Skills, and Wilderness First Aid & CPR.

Trail University Mobile Skills Crew Training The Ice Age Trail Alliance uses educational opportunities to develop a group of volunteers who are trained in ad- vanced trail construction and crew leadership techniques. Training is “on the job,” where participants apply their knowledge and develop experience on local trail building projects.

The International Mountain Bicycling Association hosts dozens of three-day Subaru/IMBA Trail Care courses. The interactive learning and hands-on trail work emphasizes “sustainable” trail building, which means building trails that last a long time and require minimal maintenance. In addition to basic trail design and construction, the courses focus on nurturing volunteers and partnerships with land managers.

OUTDOOR ETHICS and SKILLS Backcountry Horse Skills


Ninemile Wildlands Training Center near Missoula, MT is hosting several workshops on backcountry horse trail and packing skills. Classes include Defensive Horse Safety, Mule and Horse Packing, Horsemanship Techniques, and Back Country Survival Techniques.

Leave No Trace Training in the outdoor ethics program includes Master Educator Courses for those who then teach the Trainer Course to people who become Leave No Trace Train- ers. Trainers (Master Educators) are then able to conduct Awareness Workshops, which are designed for the general public on Leave No Trace.
