San Juan Huts in Colorado

 environmental impacts to allow comparisons with other forms of outdoor visitation (e.g. dispersed and designated camping, and shelters) and to inform planning and regu- latory efforts; and


 education and community-building around environmen- tal protection.


While huts are currently considered “accepted anoma- lies” by land management agencies and do not even exist in the Forest Service’s planning tool, the “Recreational Opportunity Spectrum,” there is a lot of good grass-roots experience available both in the American hut community and abroad.
