New highway underpass on the Black River Falls Trail, Wisconsin Community Linkage

Black River Falls Motorized Access Trail - Wisconsin

The area around the City of Black River Falls is a popular destination for ATV, UTV, and snowmobile use. The previous at-grade highway crossing was dangerous for trail users trying to access lodging establishments and restaurants located in town. The County’s purchase of a rail corridor that passes under Interstate 94 was the cornerstone of the new - pendent political jurisdictions. Construction and Design

Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area - Pennsylvania

The Anthracite Outdoor Adven-

ture Area Authority of Northumber- land County has transformed 6,500 acres of abandoned coal lands into a premier motorized and nonmotorized outdoor recreation facility. In 2015, RTP funds enabled con-

struction of a 4,000 sq. foot Trailhead Event Area. The design accommo- dates multiple small events or a single large event. The Trailhead Event Area is a unique 40’ x 100’ combination open pavilion and enclosed market space facility.

This project extends the exist- ing Riverwalk trail along Lake Talisi through the wooded property owned by the City of Tallassee. The trail has encouraged more physical activity and provided greater accessibility. The trail was designed to meet accessibility guidelines and encourage use by persons of all physical abili- ties. The asphalt surface is smooth and safe, particularly for elderly persons. Other sections include wooden ele- vated walkways and ramps for access along the lake and wetlands.

Public-Private Partnerships Enhanc- ing Public Lands Access and Use

Mountains-to-Sea Trail/Fonta Flora State Trail Connector - North Carolina

The Trail Connector project connects county and State parks, a National Historic Trail, Duke Energy lands, and residential developments. This partnership among local, State, and Federal agencies, and property owner associations has opened up key opportunities for linking these long- distance trails while encouraging local connections to public lands in Burke County for hiking, mountain biking, hunting, and bird watching.
