2017 NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL TRAILS AWARDS The walkers


In the first full year of operation, from December 23, 2015 to December 22, 2016, nearly 10,000 visitors walked the Three Capes Track experience. This is beyond all expectations!


Trail managers ask all walkers to com- plete a detailed survey about all aspects of the trail adventure, from arrival at the Port Arthur Historic Site to the quality of interpretation and facilities. So far:


 walkers say “it was one of the best things I’ve done in my life” or “in the past 12 months.”


 asked to rate on a five-point scale the likelihood of them recommending the experience to friends, relatives, or colleagues. The positive score was 86.1 percent (504 responses).

Walkers consistently praise the guidebook, and associated “story starter” seats as an innovative approach to delivering a diverse collec- tion of captivating and creative stories.


Economic benefits to Tasmania


From 2011-2015, more than 200 track-workers and builders crafted the


track and built the accommodations. Of the total project expenditure of $25.3  An estimated additional $3.7 million has been spent in Tasmania by walkers,  three partners to deliver the experience. From its inception, the Three Capes


Track was designed as an experience which would be much more than a bushwalk. The encouraging results indi- cates that the feasibility study was cor- rect in identifying that this new visitor experience would be sustainable, viable, and would quickly become one of Tasmania’s and Australia’s iconic walk- ing experiences.

Brewery supports Arizona Trail


An Arizona beer brewer called “THAT Brewery” won first place at the 7th Annual BrewHaHa in Flagstaff with its Arizona Trail Ale. Of the hundreds of beers at the event, THAT Arizona Trail Ale, an English-style ESB (Extra Special Bitter), came out on top.


Arizona Trail Ale is not just a delicious beer, but THAT Brewery also donates five percent of the proceeds from the beer’s sales to the Arizona Trail Association. The money raised goes towards the upkeep and mainte- nance of the Arizona National Scenic Trail, a nonmotorized path stretching 800 miles across the State from Mexico to Utah. It links deserts, mountains, canyons, forests, communities, and people. It also happens to run through the back yard of THAT Brewery and Pub in Pine, AZ.


According to THAT Brewery, “By drinking THAT Arizona Trail Ale, in can or on draft, you are not only drinking an award-winning beer, but supporting local small business and donating to protect, maintain, enhance, promote, and sustain the Arizona Trail as a unique encounter with the land. We do not think there is a bigger win than THAT.”
