In 2018, Jess came into the NFR with the back number 108. This year, Jess is will be pinning shield number 98 to her shirt before she enters the Thomas & Mack Arena.

raised horses. Gary told Jess the day they met that it was his goal to see a horse he raised compete at the NFR. Jess thought to herself, “I wonder if he actually knows how hard it is to qualify for the Finals?” Yet she was willing to try if the right horse came along. From the beginning, there was something extra special about Missy. Namely, the young mare reminded her an awful lot of her beloved Smoothie. “Missy is super easy. She’s always been a go-

getter. She’s always one that wants to do a job and go somewhere. She loves running barrels, and she loves to win. When the deck is stacked against her she tries even harder,” Jess said. A storybook 2018 season unfolded for Jess and Missy as they pulled big checks at rodeos like the Ram National Circuit Finals and the Calgary Stampede. The duo’s consistency and grit helped them win over $98,0000 during the 2018 regular season and qualify to the Wrangler National Finals

in 8th place. Under the bright lights of the Thomas & Mack, the dynamic duo won $152,000 over ten days of intense competition. When the dust settled, Jess and Missy were crowned the 2018 WPRA Reserve World Champions.

Still Chasing The Dream Jess and Missy are known nationwide for their consistency and blazing fast runs, and they solidified that reputation during the 2019 rodeo season. The pair scored major wins at Sikeston, Missouri, Plentywood, Montana, Belle Fourche, South Dakota, a second place finish at the Ram National Circuit Finals, and many more. With a year of experience under her belt, Jess was able to make better strategic decisions about her rodeo schedule. In a sport where the health and wellness of her horses means everything, Jess is careful to avoid hauling Missy and her backup horse, Margie, unnecessary miles.
