MEMBER SNAPSHOT IF YOU WEREN’T IN BANKING, WHAT

WOULD YOU BE DOING AND WHY? If I hadn’t gone into banking, I would have probably become a grade school teacher. I have always enjoyed working with children and helping them learn. I have three adult children and six grand- children. Spending time with them at school, sports and extra- curricular activities has been a joy to me.

Jayne Coleman President Kendall State Bank Valley Falls

HOW ARE YOU AND/OR YOUR BANK INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY? As a small-town banker, being involved in the community is just a fun part of the job. You are automatically the treasurer of every organization you are involved with ... which I enjoy. I am active in Valley Falls Economic Development Council and our most recent project was bringing a Senior Housing Development to our town. I am also a member of the Valley Falls High School Site Council, Valley Falls Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson County Health Department Advisory Board, Financial Chairman of the United Methodist Church, Chapter DK, PEO and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Kendall State Bank is a sponsor of both USD#338-Valley Falls and USD#339-Jefferson North academic and sports activities. We also provide four scholarships to high school seniors and sponsor a sophomore student to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Program each year. In the summer, we sponsor summer youth baseball and softball and the summer reading program at the library.

WHAT IS THE FUTURE FOR COMMUNITY BANKING?

The future of community banking looks very bright! As the econ- omy improves and becomes robust, more and more Americans are taking an interest in starting new businesses or investing in the businesses they already own, even in a small town. The  rst place these entrepreneurs go for help, advice and hopefully a business loan is their friendly hometown community bank. As young people become more settled into their careers and they are now ready to buy that new home, again their hometown community bank is there for them. As bankers we should all be proud to wear our “Community Banker” hats and know that we are helping people in our communities in many ways every day. 
