November’s Fall Finale

Bob Johnson, OABA President A

s many of you finish up your 2018, unfortunately for those in the Carolinas it’s a horrific finale, as hurricane Florence just wouldn’t leave, dumping record rains and flooding in these states, and we know the devastation will take years to clean up. Hopefully others will get an opportunity to see what’s new at

the IAAPA Attractions Expo in Orlando and the IAFE’s First Impressions Convention in the all new venue, San Antonio, Texas, and network with your friends. We know SLA’s President Guy Leavitt and his wife Charlene plan to host the most fabulous gala since Buffalo Bill Cody started the SLA in 1913. His Boots and Bling Ball is being held at The Pearl in San Antonio. The SLA trade show and exhibitor’s lounge will be in the Marriott River Center hotel November 26–27.

In the past, in this November issue we’ve featured many events happening, both at IAAPA in Orlando as well as the IAFE convention. Today, each of these large associations have developed mobile app’s for your cell phones, so download them and see what education and other events are taking place. OABA board members will meet during IAAPA, plus we always look forward to Allied Specialty Insurance’s sponsored Carnival and Showman’s Reception on Wednesday night at the Orange County Convention Center, after the show closes at 6 PM. Thanks again to all our shows for hosting OABA Jammin’ Jamborees with the help of OABA Sr. Vice President Al DeRusha. Take a look at the many pictures in this edition of our industry employees having FUN! I, too, enjoyed attending a few of these.

Once again this year your OABA is sponsoring the IAFE’s Keynote Speaker on Wednesday morning — Shawn Rhodes, an international expert in creating high-performing organiza- tions. He’s a Tampa-based TEDx speaker and his work study- ing organizations in more than two dozen countries has been published in news outlets around the world, including TIME, CNN, NBC, Forbes and INC. Shawn is also a nationally- syndicated columnist with the Business Journals and author of the new book “Pivot Point: Turn On A Dime Without Sacrificing Results.” The OABA is holding a Mobile Amusement Industry Update on Wednesday from 2 PM to 2:45 PM in Room 225D. Don’t miss this informative session covering H-2B visas, active legislation af- fecting the industry and OABA’s new VOLT education program for members. I look forward to seeing many of you at

either the IAAPA, IAFE or SLA events. Come see the OABA in Orlando on the trade show floor, Booth # 3017, once again near Allied and Bob’s Space Racers. As we all sit down at Thanksgiving with our families and loved ones, please pray for the folks in the Carolinas who have lost their homes due to the epic and devastating flooding, as you give thanks for all that’s good in this country with your families.

Continued safe travels as you wind down your 2018 enter- tainment season and travel to these wonderful industry trade shows and conventions.

From our family to yours... “a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving!” 
