That same concept is being applied today, with a website called www. timetoride.com and take the Challenge! “Now is your chance to re- turn the favor by pledging to take a friend riding and showing a new rider how and where to experience the mental, physical and emo- tional benefits of horses.” (timetoride.com) Pledge to take a friend riding! Interested in increasing business to your riding stable, riding camp, or riding facility? Interested in winning up to $100,000 in cash and prizes for your business? I thought so. Now I have your attention.


the joy of horses with newcomers. It offers the equine professional (host) an opportunity to grow his/her business by meeting and con- necting with horse-interested people, while competing for cash and prizes.


Challenge hosts offer activities during the months of May


thru September to give newcomers a chance to meet a horse, pony, mule, or donkey. More than 1,500 beginner friendly hosts in 50 states have already taken the Challenge, resulting in more than 98,000 people enjoying a first-time equine experience. Hosts are encouraged to use Time To Ride ideas and resources to create compelling activi- ties aimed at generating new, long term customers. A host competes in either the small, medium, or large division to reach the most new- comers during Phase 1 of the Challenge. First place winner in each division receive $5,000 cash. Then hosts may compete in Phase II to encourage newcomers to return for a riding lesson. First place winner in Phase II receive $8,000 cash. Cash and Prizes are also awarded through tenth place in both Phase I and Phase II.

Let’s go back and see how www.timetoride.com got started. I called the Marketing Director Christie Schulte, and we had a great conver- sation. The concept was started after 2009-2010 when the recession was in, and horse sales were down, people were selling horses. Riding stables, riding camps, and riding facility businesses were decreasing. A group of industry leaders got together and thought, how can we in- crease revenues to the riding facilities, and how do we get people rid- ing again or new people riding? Through collaboration and research, the group discovered that access was a main issue, people just didn’t know where to go. Is the riding stable reputable? On the flip side, teaching horse professionals how to successfully market their sta- bles, riding camps, or equestrian centers is of value.


Here is how www.timetoride.com works with two parts. For the rid- er there is information on lessons, camps, trail rides, dude ranches, fairs, rodeos, horse shows, horse races, clubs and others.
