that experience, discipline, and the horse you’re training? My training my horse has taught me as much as I have taught her. My horse’s name is Scooter. She is sweet, gentle, and my best friend. I have learned patience, understanding, and that it is a privilege to be blessed with such a wonderful part- ner. I have learned that when I have been bucked off, it is important to get back on. I try to figure out why she bucked me off and give her the understanding she needs to not repeat the action. My horse comes first. I take care of her before I take care of myself. I love her and I be- lieve she loves me.

How would you describe the word Rodeo Teen Queen? What does it mean to you, and your future? The way I would describe Rodeo Teen Queen is friendly, kind, understanding, capable, energetic, helpful, and always smiling.

I think that being a Rodeo Teen Queen is one of the best things that has happened to me. I have learned how to speak in front of a crowd, I have had personal in- terviews, I have answered questions with everyone watching, I have walked the runway, and I have met some unforgetta- ble people. I have learned how to be ded- icated, friendly, and tough. I don’t know what the future holds for me. I do know that I have some of the skills to succeed in those things that are waiting for me.

2018 Flagstaff Pro Rodeo Teen Queen

Brooke Suter by Miriam Lucero • photography by David Ramos

Brooke Suter, you have recently been crowned Miss Flagstaff Pro Rodeo Teen Queen 2018. What are your duties this year? Community involvement? The duties that I have as Miss Flagstaff Pro Rodeo Teen Queen 2018 is serving as a representa- tive of the sport of Rodeo, particularly our Flagstaff Pro Rodeo. I will go to the many rodeos that take place in our state of Arizona. Some of the things I will do are carry sponsors flags, meet and greet the many spectators, answer questions they may have about the sport of rodeo, sell raffle tickets, and help wherever I am needed.

Some of the things I will do in the community will be going to grand openings, there is a possi- bility of going to rest homes, if asked, participating in the many parades throughout the state, participating in fundraisers, and being ready at a moment’s notice to help when asked.

Brooke you’re a role model to other teens, and peers. What tips can you suggest for other teens, on reaching their goals? As a role model to other teens, and peers, I would say never give up. That is first and foremost. Also, be prepared, work hard, and no matter what, keep smiling.

Brooke, you’re training a new horse this summer. Would you share with our readers 38 AUGUST / SEPTEMBER 2018 I HORSE & AG MAGAZINE

Each Issue of Horse & Agriculture Magazine we have a theme! The Aug/ Sept Issue is “Living Life Well”! With starting High School in the fall, train- ing a new horse, and your new Teen Queen duties. Any tips or sugges- tions to other teens on balancing, eating well, or social media? To balance everything that a Teen Queen must do, you have to schedule and keep an up to date calendar. Make sure you have all of your dates correct and have you clothes, boots, and hat ready to go ahead of time.

Eating well is probably the most difficult thing for me to do. I get a bit nervous pri- or to a performance so generally I have something light, like a banana or apple. It is also very important to drink plenty of water.

Social media can be a good thing, if, it is used correctly. The things that are posted can follow a person forever. You should never post anything inappropriate. Be- ing a teen queen is a privilege that can be taken away easily if the wrong thing is posted. There is a standard for the way I should act. It is important to me to keep that part of my life clean and honest.
