Historically, the Texas Longhorn Legacy Sale has produced chart-topping sales results. This year, the beautiful Texas Longhorn, 3S Danica, smashed the world-record, selling for $380,000.

On March 18, 2017, the Texas Longhorn Cattle Association hosted the Legacy Sale in Grapevine, Texas, which achieved over $1 million in sales over the two-day weekend. Bill and Judy Meridith, of Tallgrass Cattle Co., and Mike Davis, of Lucky Mountain Ranch, went head to head making the event an exciting one as they placed bid after bid competing for 3S Danica consigned by Alan and Teresa Sparger, of 3S Longhorns. The Meridiths had purchased the previous record-holder at $170,000.

3S Danica’s pedigree includes RM Checkered Flag x 3S Touchdown Tari. With Hunts Command Respect, Iron Mike ST, Super Bowl and Hashknife included in the line-up, 3S Danica was expected to go for a high amount, but the sale attendees never expected what happened.

“We couldn’t have been more excited for the Spargers and Meridiths,” Chase Vasut, Director of Operations at the TLCA, says. “The Meridiths are known for purchasing only top-of-the-line cattle. And it couldn’t have happened to a better couple.”

The Texas Longhorn Legacy Sale has become the most elaborate event of the year for Longhorn breeders across the country. Now celebrating its 13th year, the Legacy Sale has had a rich history of setting new standards for the Longhorn industry by establishing new records and providing the highest dollar averages in the business. This is possible because the Legacy committee has recruited only the finest quality Longhorn cattle – a group of cattle which always draws an audience of the top breeders and prospective breeders from across the nation.

On Friday, Mike Macleod provided the opportunity for Legacy attendees to fine-tune their dancing skills with the Kim S. MacLeod Dancing Lessons in order to prepare for the night’s celebration. The evening began with the Legacy reception and cocktails hour to give attendees time to meet and visit with friends from across the country. As guests took their seats in the ballroom, the lights went out and the exciting Legacy video, provided by Gary Davis of Atomic Effect, garnered everyone’s attention. (For those who missed it, the video may be viewed at: thetlca.com)

After the Ben Gravett Spotlight Heifer Sale, the excitement was still stirring as everyone stayed for dinner and dancing. Courtesy of Frank & Michelle Hevrdejs, The Wesley Westbrook Band took the stage once again and entertained the attendees for the remainder of the evening.

Attendees prepared for another fantastic sale for Saturday evening by gathering in their finest attire in the reception hall. The cover of the special Herd Sire Texas Longhorn Journal was auctioned off, and Austin and Taylor Rohr of Rolling Horns Ranch made the winning bid. Look for their bull to make a cover debut in July.

The entire Legacy Sale weekend turned out to be a great and successful event. The cattle prices were exceptional and the times and fellowship were very much enjoyed. Thank you to everyone for making the 2016 Legacy Sale XIII such a resounding success. Start planning now to make your mark on the Legacy Sale XIV in March 2018.
