2017 LONGHORN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEASUREMENT COMPETITION REGULATIONS

The Texas Longhorn Cattle Association has established the annual Longhorn World Championship as a vehicle to promote and bring together the longest horned Texas Longhorn cattle and their breeders. The following regulations will apply for the Horn Measurement Competition.

1. All animals are required to be registered with the TLCA, ITLA or TLBAA and Championship Management must inspect the registration certificate or copy thereof for each animal. 2. All animals will be subject to positive identification.

3. All animals are required to have health papers for travel to and from the location of the event, signed by a licensed veterinarian. Health requirements of pregnancy test on females 36 months or older are required for animals that do not have any registered offspring unless they have a nursing calf at side. If a cow is not confirmed to be pregnant, exhibitor will furnish registration certificate photocopy of one of the offspring of the entrant. Pregnancy test can be palpation, ultrasound, or BioPRYN and be so noted on health papers. A copy of these health papers are required for each entrant and must be submitted to the show office. (Cattle originating in California and being hauled to Oklahoma must be TB tested and obtain an Oklahoma entry permit.)

4. All animals will be palpated or have a BioPRYN test by a licensed veterinarian if they have not met the previous requirements of productivity of a registered natural calf. 5. Clones will be eligible for the 2017 Longhorn World Championship with the following guidelines:

• Only one animal per clonal family per ownership can be entered in the 2017 Longhorn World Championship measurement competition. An ownership is defined as full or partial ownership. • For measurement competition purposes, offspring of clones conceived through natural breeding methods, (natural, AI, and embryo transfer) are to be considered the same as any other animal conceived through natural breeding.

6. All cattle must be measured at the 2017 Longhorn World Championship main event location or at one of the Official Measurement Locations (OMLs). For OML measurements to be included in the Longhorn World Championship competition, the owner of the cattle or his/her manager representative must attend the main event. Animals measured at OMLs must submit entry forms as set forth in paragraph #14.

7. No alterations of any animal’s horns by cosmetic or surgical methods will be allowed, and such animals will be disqualified and all fees forfeited. In such cases the decision of the Championship Committee will be final.

8. An immobilizer may be used to facilitate the safety of cattle and personnel. If in the opinion of Championship Management an animal is deemed unmanageable, said animal will be removed from the competition and all fees forfeited.

9. The 2017 Longhorn World Championship will have two different measurement categories available for participants:

a. Tip-To-Tip – The measurement in a straight line from the outside of one tip to the outside of the opposite tip using a steel tape measure. b. Total Horn – The measurement of horns following the back of the horn and poll using a section of weed eater cord.

10. All classes will be by age and have no more than ten (10) entries per class, starting with dates chosen by the Longhorn World Championship Show Committee 90 days before the event. Bull and cow entries will be divided into divisions as follows:

• Division I – Born 01/01/16 to 12/31/16 • Division II – Born 01/01/15 to 12/31/15 • Division III – Born 01/01/14 to 12/31/14 • Division IV – Born 01/01/13 to 12/31/13 • Division V – Born 01/01/11 to 12/31/12 • Division VI – Born 01/01/08 to 12/31/10 • Division VII – Born 01/01/03 to 12/31/07 • Division VIII – Born on or prior to 12/31/02

In Division I, classes will be organized so that animals in the same class will be born no more than 60 days apart, unless this results in less than three animals in any class. In Division II, classes will be organized so that animals within the same class will be born no more than 90 days apart, unless this results in less than three animals in any class.

Each division will be divided as equally as possible into classes with no more than ten (10) entries per class. In the event that the class sizes within a division cannot be exactly the same, the younger entries in the division will be assigned to the smaller class(es).

Example #1 – A division has 44 entries. This would be divided into five classes, four with 9 entries and one with eight entries. The youngest animals (Class A) would be assigned to the eight entry class. Result – Class A would have 8 entries; classes B, C, D and E would have 9 entries.

Example #2 – A division has 47 entries. This would be divided into five classes, two with 10 entries and three with 9 entries. The youngest animals (Classes A, B and C) would be assigned to the 9 entry classes. Result – Classes A, B and C would have 9 entries; Classes D & E would have 10 entries.

11. The winner of each class will be designated “2017 Longhorn World Champion”. 12. Entry Fees: $100.00 each for both categories

13. All entries into the Horn Measurement Competition will be eligible for the award of “2017 Ultimate Longhorn World Champion.” One award each will be presented to the top cow and top bull as selected by a vote of peers. Each breeder who owns animals entered into the measurement competition will be entitled to vote. The single cow and bull with the highest vote total will be designated the “2017 Ultimate Longhorn World Champion Cow (or Bull).” There is no entry fee required for this award.

14. All entry forms for the Longhorn World Championship Competitions (not the consignment sale) and the fees must be received by the TLCA by August 10, 2017 to be eligible, no exceptions.
