Dear Texas Longhorn Industry,

Te Texas Longhorn Cattle Association has decided to discontinue the development and roll-out of a third Longhorn Registry. It has become apparent to our board that a third registry is unnecessary and is not in the best interest of unity in the industry. We have made arrangements with the TLBAA to handle any registrations that have been made with us. We will also reimburse you for any duplicate registration fees that you have incurred as a result of this decision. Please contact Chase Vasut if you have any questions or if we can be of any assistance to you in this regard. Te TLBAA has the oldest and largest Longhorn registry, and they are eager to help all breeders with their registration needs.

We are very excited about our next event, Legacy XIV, on March 16-17, 2018, in Grapevine, Texas. Tis event is always the highlight of the Longhorn season, and we promise you a great sale and party. Te TLCA will continue to provide the Longhorn industry with the best sales, shows, and magazine in the Longhorn industry.

If you have any questions regarding this, please call Chase Vasut at (512) 917-8654, or call or email any TLCA director.

Sincerely, TLCA Board of Directors

The announcement regarding the Registry was made on October, 25, 2017, and many commented on the first step in uniting our industry. The TLBAA Chairman of the Board, Tom Matott, had this to say about the announcement:

I applaud the TLCA Board for what was surely a difficult decision. The TLCA raised the bar for the rest of us by setting aside personal goals for what they believe will be in the best interest of the industry.

There are no specific credentials required to be a part of the Longhorn family, only a love for the breed and a desire to “protect and preserve” their future. Though we sometimes disagree, we share a common love for the Texas Longhorn and it is that passion that sometimes pushes us apart but ultimately will always bring us together again.

I pray that today will be remembered not as an END but rather as a START, to more understanding, cooperation, and unity for the sake of our beloved Texas Longhorns.

Other comments about the announcement:

“Tis must have been a hard decision to make, and I applaud you for doing what was difficult in order to bring unity to the breed.” – Johnny Hicks

“It’s the first time I’ve ever seen any of the associations make any effort to better the industry while deciding to drop a revenue stream. I see a lot of people saying ‘egos’ lately. You can’t say that about the TLCA Board right now.” – Bear Davidson

“I think this is a great decision, and I am sure it was a difficult one. It is refreshing to see a decision geared toward unity. Chase Vasut, you have done an excellent job of promoting the breed through some serious adversity. Keep it up.” – Joshua Shaw
