Longhorns, have been Founding Members of the TLCA for several years, but it took a while to reach breeders the way they had hoped. They consigned to the Longhorn World Championship Sale, and their cow, Bedazzled, became the second highest cow sold that evening. Now after more than 20 years in the Angus business and then switching to focus on Texas Longhorns, the Glasgows are building a herd that brings in the most powerful genetics in the breed.

Their ranch, located in Elk City, Texas, consists of more than 1100 acres of pasture and hunting land. Neil quickly realized he did not want to look at black cattle all day. He bought five pairs of Longhorns because he wanted to see something with color on his land.


“Then the bug caught me,” Neil laughs. “I started selling out all of the junk. We now have about 187 head of Longhorns. Reading the magazines, we started realizing the importance of Tip-To-Tip and Total Horn, so that is what we started chasing.”


The couple started purchasing Longhorns from eLonghornsales.com as well as visiting ranches. Neil and Debora quickly learned about the cattle and what breeders look for in Longhorns. But having a keen eye for a “well- rounded” cow, Neil knew his goal would have to include searching for animals with the complete body and fuller hind quarters.


He chose MMW Gorilla and Trail Dust as herd sires. He has also added Cowboy, Sittin Bull, and HL Red Baron to round out the list of leading producers. He initially started with Owen McGill genetics.


“You have to start out with a good base herd,” Neil says. “I outcross using a triangle method. I chased down McGill genetics and line bred them with Cowboy. Then the third generation, I cross out. Red Barron is the
