President’s Message (cont.)

students the opportunity to gain valuable experience in practice management and practice evaluation. Te students evaluated 3 practices along with a business consultant which allowed them a deeper understanding of the business of veterinary medicine. Te practices benefited from the analysis by getting insight into how better to run their practice and to hopefully increase profitability. Also, four student preceptors were placed in practices that were looking to hire a veterinarian and met the USDA’s guidelines for being an under-served area. Tree of the students elected to stay in Kentucky and do large animal/mixed practice with one student taking a mixed animal practice position in Georgia.

Tis grant is only in its second year and continues to make an impact in Kentucky.

Dr. Jen Quammen and the Mid-America Veterinary Conference committee are working to finalize the CE program for our September meeting. We would like to encourage all members to consider the MAVC for your CE this year, come visit with old friends and make new ones on the Belle of Louisville, and enjoy some time away from home. Te meeting continues to grow and we welcome any suggestions as to how we can make it even better.

As always the KVMA tries to be a member driven organization and we invite your comments and welcome your par- ticipation in serving the profession.

Sincerely Doug Peterson, D.V.M. dougdvm@gmail.com
