Solicit sponsorship to offset costs... We all have vendors in our community to whom we give our busi- ness. Ask those partners to engage in sponsoring the event through in-kind gifts or discounts. The largest expense for most meetings is food & beverage. …but it is OK to have SOME costs It is perfectly reasonable to charge a registration fee. In fact, charging a nominal registration fee to cover expenses that cannot be spon- sored or otherwise donated by the host venue is a way to help ensure those attendees who RSVP will actually show up.


Spread the word Marketing not your forté? Don’t worry! IAVM can help market  website presence. The best marketing, however, is always word of mouth. Many chapter meetings are not necessarily overnight trips requiring large travel budgets, so take the opportunity to engage ju-    opportunity.


Chapter meetings are a great recruitment tool as well. When


building your list of invitees, in addition to the traditional IAVM venue sector types, don’t forget your local vendors, service partners, Chambers, CVBs, and Universities. Also, consider including facility managers from non-traditional venue types that host events in your area, such as zoos & aquariums, sports complexes, hotels and recep- tion halls.
