THE NALPEXPERIENCE

region and nationwide, and includes age, gender, race, and ethnicity broken out into employment classification catego- ries - executives, office staff, production management, and production staff. It also compares demographic data with nation- al databases and identifies underrepre- sented employees. The report, along with data tables was available at LANDSCAPES and was pro- vided to all participants, prior to release. Phase II of the study will be to outline the best ways to attract the underrep- resented workforce and Phase III will develop best practices to retain the underrepresented workforce while culti- vating inclusivity. “Knowing what the landscape industry workforce looks like demographically and being able to compare your own workforce by region and nationwide, companies can objectively look at the

big picture and have the data to help them make decisions on workforce development and retention,” Myers says. “The study will also provide tools to assist with your diversity and inclusion policies. Creating a work environment that’s com- fortable and accessible for all is essential to your retention and recruitment.”

BENEFITS OF HEALTHY LANDSCAPES Another project the Foundation is carrying out is the Benefit of Health Landscapes Research project. The goals of this initiative are to conduct research to determine quantifiable metrics on how healthy green spaces benefit our environment and our communities. This information will create a foundation and baseline for continuous improvement around existing and future designed, constructed, and managed landscapes. “This is a long-term endeavor, and

the Foundation is still in the early stages of interviewing and engaging with key stakeholders and partners to develop and prepare a strategy to move forward,” Myers says. “All exciting stuff and certain- ly more to come as we make progress.” TLP
