NCLC student attendees partake in competitive landscape events (bottom left and top right) and celebrate a competitive event team win (top left).

“Whenever a company comes for the first time, they say it exceeds their expectations,” Myers says. “I don’t think companies quite realize what they can get out of this event until they’re here, experiencing it in person.” One thing that always stands out to Myers at NCLC is the camaraderie that shines through. She says it’s some- thing that is truly unique to the green industry. “In what other industry would you see competitors rooting for one another?” she says. “That’s something that I’ve always thought was incredible about our industry and you really see it at this event. I think that says a lot to students—when they see how everyone supports one another. It’s such a welcoming and supportive profession.” For students, Myers says attending NCLC can play a vital role in their academic development and future careers. “There is no greater opportunity to really get to know what it could be like working within the green industry,” Myers says. “It’s a way to immerse yourself in it. Students will not only gain real world experiences—even on things like traveling with the team and getting to know their classmates—but they’ll also have an opportunity to meet prominent industry members and potentially impact their future careers. To put it simply, it’s an opportunity not to be missed.”

NALP named the NCLC student reception the Rea Student Reception in honor of Christopher Rea, who passed away March 15, 2018, at the age of 28. Rea was an alumnus of Kansas State University and participated in NCLC for three years, from
