New Year, New Hope, New at NALP and Appreciating Some Great Teams


SO, BY THE TIME YOU ARE READING THIS YOU ARE probably long tired of wishing folks a Happy New Year. With that said, for those of you who I don’t get to talk to on a regular basis this is my first chance to say Happy New Year and may your ’22 be better than your ’21.


As I think about that for a minute, I really hope that’s pos- sible. I can’t tell you the number of members that I spoke to that had record years in 2021. It was flat out incredible. So, do we have a “correction” as Wall Street is fond of saying, or do we continue this great streak we are on? My money is on continuing the streak, and here’s why: our members are continu- ing to improve their businesses, in large part by improving their efficiency and making their businesses stronger as a result. As your association, we need to improve our efficiency and up our game as well. Much of that starts with improving our current offerings to ensure that they are the best they can be. You saw how we renamed and re-envisioned our publications by not only giving them a brand “refresh” i.e. The Edge, but by also committing to bring you the best content so you can learn from one another and continue to grow your businesses. Raising the game on current


offerings is not enough though, we must do more. That “more” starts with our new annual meeting ELEVATE. Since Oc-


tober, our team has been hard at work at re-envisioning what our industry’s primary gathering will be, and I have to tell you I am excited. ELEVATE is going to exceed your every expecta- tion. Moving to an “all-inclusive” format, you will get great edu- cation, great meals and great entertainment all for one price. There will still be extras for those who seek to get an even bigger experience. However, this event, at its core, is designed to entertain, educate and inspire you like never before and I guarantee you that it will do that and much more.


Before I end this column, I need to do something that is so long overdue…I need to thank my Board and the NALP staff for an incredible 2021. To do so, I have to share a few facts with you to help you appreciate where the organization has come from over the past year. First and foremost, our mem- bership grew by over 10 per- cent. While I know many of your businesses have grown more than that, for an association that is a ridiculously high number. We have also made great prog- ress in government relations, in


both the states and on Capitol Hill, and the education NALP provides to the industry has also grown by leaps and bounds over the past year. All of this is due to two groups who work tirelessly for you: your Board of Directors who have supplied the vision to help the industry move forward and the NALP staff who make it all happen.


Not often do I get the chance to thank both groups in such a public fashion, so if you will humor me, I would like to do so now: Thank you Bob, Mike, Brandon, Shayne, Bruce, Pam, Maurice, Lisa, Paul, Ivan, Claire, John, Phil, Roscoe, Will, Frank, Joe, Tim and Chris. Your lead- ership and guidance this year has been fantastic, and I look forward to working with you in 2022.

garet, Kayla, Amee, Meghann, Duane, Sharon, Kristen, Jill, Tracey, Karla, Kim, Nitesh, Tony, Amy, Pam, Page, Laurie, Margo, Bob, Jenn, Stacia, Scott, Corey, Lisa, Heather, Andrew and Carol. I cannot think of a better team to work with and am so grateful for all of you. So, here’s to ’22, may we all have a great year!
